ENTEKHAB A gathering of members of the press was held in Tehran yesterday where participants were unanimous in accepting that UN-mandated youth and children' rights are observed in Iran.

Solayman Dialoo, the representative of the United Nations Children's Educational and Scientific Fund (UNICEF) in Iran said that the main objective of the gathering was to let the whole world know that youth and children all over the world have rights which must be respected.

Dialoo said that the gathering was also intended as a reminder to leaders all over the world that millions of children and young adults all over the world are currently suffering from the ravages of war, poverty, disease, discrimination, corruption, abuse, and other difficulties.

The gathering actually asked members of the press to send a message to peoples of the world that children and the youth deserve a better environment to live in where they can cultivate better lives. Public Offering of Government Bonds Nets 3,000bn Rials Last Year: Nourbakhsh

JAAM-E JAM Central Bank Director Mohsen Nourbakhsh said that capital invested in government bonds would help increase production and stabilize prices. "More money saved in banks would lead to increased production and job opportunities," he said.

He further predicted that the inflation rate for the current fiscal year would drop to 15 percent, liquidity would rise to 18 percent, and growth in gross domestic product would be at 5.5 percent.

Asian Youth Not Fully Aware of Dangers of AIDS

SIASAT-E ROUZ The UNICEF in Geneva announced that most young people living in eastern Asia are still not aware of what the AIDS virus is and how it works.

As part of a research sponsored by the Fund, 10,000 youths in 17 countries in the region were asked their ideas about AIDS; 60 percent of the 10,000 were between 9 to 13 years of age, while 25 percent were between the ages of 14 to 17. The respondents said that they were only aware of the name of the disease.

Moreover, the research found that 2.4 million people in eastern Asia are HIV- positive, with the figure predicted to increase sharply in the near future.

Another report on the research's findings also said that in the southern part of Africa 12 million children have lost either or both parents and become orphans as a result of AIDS. It further said that at present there are 25.3 million HIV-positive in Africa whereas last year about 2 million people died in the continent from the disease. 80 Nurses and Midwifes to Work in Qatar

AFARINESH Pursuant to an agreement inked between Iran and Qatar, some 80 nurses and midwifes left for Qatar to take up employment. The Public Relations Office of the Ministry of Health, Treatment, and Medical Instruction said these medical personnel were selected from among many applicants through scientific interviews and English tests.

The office further said that other applicants will be informed of any additional job openings abroad in the future through the official media. Men Less Tolerant of Sick Wives

AFTAB-E YAZD Research findings indicate that men are likely to divorce their spouses than women when either contracts a life-threatening disease. According to a report of findings from researches conducted in the University of Massachusetts, of the 23 separated and/or divorced cases in a study of 214 couples where one had brain cancer, women with the disease accounted for 18 of the cases. Millionaires Account For $27,000 Billion of Global Wealth

ABRAR-E EQTESADI Results of an economic research indicate that millionaires around the world in the year 2,000 accounted for $27,000 billion of global wealth, a 6 percent growth from the previous year.

IRNA, reporting from London, further said that the number of billionaires around the world has increased to 2.7 billion, a 3 percent growth from the preceding figure.
